April 2018

Jansvans
A very big thank you indeed to Jansvans customers and staff for raising a wonderful total of £98.63 from our counter collection tins!  The money will be used to support the young carers planned respite breaks.  This Easter some are going swimming and having lunch at Hector's Bothy in Kyle, others are going fishing, attending an art workshop or heading to Landmark for a much needed break.

XCEL Church
Many thanks indeed to everyone at the XCEL Church for the very generous donation of Easter Eggs for young carers and our support volunteers.  The eggs have been very much enjoyed and appreciated.

Donation of Clothing and Toys
Our most grateful thanks goes to our local family who donated 'as good as new' clothing and toys for young carers and their families.  Young carer families who are awaiting the arrival of a baby will benefit from the baby clothing and equipment and primary school age young carers will spend many happy hours playing with the high quality toys you have provided. The remaining pre-school toys have been donated to another local children's charity - Portree Nursery, they too were delighted and appreciative of the gifts they received.

March 2018

Open Door Café
Many thanks indeed to our friends and supporters at the Open Door Café for the latest much appreciated donation of £175.00.  This money will be used to purchase some of our weekly snacks along with cooking and baking resources to give the young carer more opportunities to develop their creative and life skills in the kitchen.

Edinbane Hall Committee
Many thanks for your very much appreciated donation of £63.33 which was raised through a recent raffle.  This money will help us with our planned Spring respite breaks, we plan to have some local trips as well as an away day to Landmark in line with the wishes and ability levels of the young carers.

Personal Donation
Our most sincere thanks goes to the family who donated a very thoughtful and generous donation of £675.00 to Young Carers in memory of a loved one.  This money will be used to support our planned summer respite activity programme which will include local and away days throughout the summer holiday period and it addition we will be purchasing more healthy snacks for our young carer members.

Fasgadh Stores, Dunvegan
Grateful thanks to staff and customers at Fasgadh Stores for raising a very much appreciated total of £25.61 in the Young Carers' counter collection tin.  This money will be used to provide some tasty snacks during the planned Easter respite breaks.

 

 

February 2018

MOD BUTEC
A massive thank you goes to MOD BUTEC for their generous corporate donation of £700.00.  This money will help us purchase more activity and skill development resource materials for the 67 young carers we currently supporting in Skye and Lochalsh.

Inside Out
Huge thanks to customers and staff who raised a collection tin total of £55.90 for Young Carers.  This money will be used to support our planned Spring respite break activities, we plan to have fun filled choices between local trips or an away day.

Inga's Sweet Treats
Our sincere thanks goes to Inga for her very generous donation of German biscuits and assorted sweets.  The biscuits have been added to our Young Carers' food bank store and the sweet treats will be distributed to the children during their support group sessions.

Open Door Café
Our grateful thanks go to our loyal supporters at the Open Door Café for their latest donation of £75.00.  This money will help to support our Spring respite plans, each young carer will be given a much needed opportunity to attend a local respite trip or an away day trip to Inverness or Landmark.

 

January 2018

John Casson Foundation
A massive thank you to the John Casson Foundation for their extremely generous sponsorship of £2,500 which will cover the costs of an overnight residential in Inverness for 10 young carers and another local 3 night residential at Quiraing Lodge in Staffin for 6 young carers this summer.  This means we will be able to deliver another valuable Seasons for Growth programme to appropriate young carers and provide new opportunities and experiences for some of our high school age young carers.

Dr Steve McCabe and Muriel Hutchinson
A huge thank you to Steve for selling his childhood collection of postcards for the benefit of Young Carers and to Muriel for selling them for us at the Portree Market. A wonderful total of £593.00 was raised from the card sales during 2017.  This money will be used to support young carer's hobbies and interests so that they can practice and develop their skills.  Thank you again Steve for this much appreciated donation which was raised through such a personal gift to us.

A Open Door Café, Kyle
Thank you so much to all our friends and supporters at the Open Door Café for the latest donation of £150.00.  This money will be used to purchase the healthy snacks of fruit juices, fresh fruits and vegetables which young carers look forward to, in addition some of the money will allow us to purchase some more resource equipment for use at the group sessions.

Hazel Robertson & Catherine McCabe
A very big thank you to Hazel for organising and teaching her 2 fundraiser Pilates sessions during the festive seasons and to Catherine for teaching the JKZ session in Borve. Thanks to the very generous donations from those taking part a grand total of £181.87 was raised, this money will be used to support the healthy eating options we are providing at each of the 5 weekly young carer group sessions.

Residents of Shulishadder Beag
Many thanks indeed to Sophie and residents for Shulishader Beag for the very much appreciated donation of £50.00 which was collected from loose change over the year.  This money will be used to purchase some more activity materials for use at the young carer's group sessions.

Personal Donations
Thank you so much to the individuals who donated a total of £180.00 this month.  This money will be used to support the young carer's invaluable 5 weekly support group sessions for our current membership of 66 young carers in Skye and Lochalsh.

Rhoda Grant MSP
Thank you so much Rhoda for 2 your latest donations totalling £80.00 received through You Gov and Com Res.  These donations will help support our planned Christmas party activities which the young carer thoroughly enjoy as all games and activities are non-competitive.

Thank you so much to all our loyal friends and supporters at the Open Door Café for the latest donation of £125.00.  This money will be used to support the Christmas party plans for young carers, we will have lots of nibbles, activities and games and for everyone to enjoy.

Our most grateful thanks goes to local families and community supporters who have so kindly and generously donated equipment, clothing and treats for young carers and their families.  This is so much appreciated and particularly at this time of year when life can be more difficult and stressful for many young carer families.

November 2017

Dunvegan Community Trust
Huge thanks to the Dunvegan Community Trust for the £1,500.00 donation received.  This money will be used to support Christmas respite trips and parties to help build resilience in the lead up the festive season which can be a more stressful and challenging time for many young carers

Bakur Bar, Uig
Thank you so much to the kind and thoughtful Chef's at the Bakur Bar in Uig for organising a fantastic box collection donation of £323.41!  This money will be used to provide some special 'Santa' gifts and for some more vulnerable young carers in our community this Christmas

Stein Inn Patrons, Waternish
Our sincere thanks goes to the patrons of Stein Inn for their very generous collection bottle donation of £259.00.  This money will be used to support the young carer's Christmas respite activities

Skye Emergency Services
A massive thank you to the Skye Emergency Services group who have donated £280.36 to the Young Carer Service.  This money will allow us to purchase some new skill development recourse materials so we can deliver valuable workshops during the coming year to young carers

Alcoholics Anonymous
A big thank you for your much appreciated donation of £50.00 as suggested by Willie Gordon for the use of the Skye tartan at your annual conference.  This money will help toward the Christmas respite programme in the lead up to the festive period which can be more challenging and stressful for many young carers

GWC Sponsorship
A massive thank you to Dolly, Fiona, Marina and Lisa who raised a fantastic total of £725.00 in sponsorship money.  Three of them also completed the 13 mile challenge for us and all four worked together to host fundraising events to boost the sponsorship money raised.  These funds will be used to support our annual respite programme which helps to build resilience and create positive memories to tap into during more difficult times

A big thank you to staff and customers at Fasgach Stores for raising a total of £22.55 from the counter collection box.  This money well be used to support our planned Christmas respite breaks

Broadford & Portree Co-op Stores
Thank you so much to the Broadford and Portree Co-op staff, customers and our volunteers for raising a brilliant grand total of £1,511.77 from our sales tables.  This money will help us provide more choices and very much appreciated opportunities for the young carers in our area

The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music (SEALL)
Massive thank you to Dougie Pincock and everyone involved in organising and participating in the thoroughly enjoyable concert in Sabhal Mor Ostaig in support of Young Carers.  A very much appreciated grand total of £426.00 was raised on the night and will be used support young carers activities during their weekly group sessions

Personal Donations
Our condolences and most sincere thanks goes to the family who donated £83.50 raised from their funeral service collection.  This money will provide additional resource materials for those young carers who have a talent they wish to develop

Our most sincere thanks goes to a young carer family who donated £50.00 raised through the sale of items.  This donation will help us to purchase some new resources so that we can deliver a wider variety of workshops to help increase young carers' knowledge and understanding

Thank you so much to the generous and thoughtful couple who donated the generous sum of £100.00 which they won at the Waternish '100 Club'. This money will go to support the high school age young carer's annual residential weekend which has such a hugely positive impact on them

October 2017

Royal Caledonian Charities Trust
A massive thank you to our incredibly loyal supporters at the Royal Caledonian Charities Trust for their £5,000.00 donation for Young Carers.  This money will allow us to deliver our planned annual Edinburgh residential respite break which means so much to those taking part and is definitely the highlight of the young carer's year.

Open Door Café, Kyle
Our sincere thanks goes to our many friends and supporters at the Open Door Café for the 2 latest donations totalling £275.00.  Some of this money will be used to purchase clothing items for some young carers and in addition it will help us deliver our respite programme in the lead up to Christmas. 

Dannasaireann An Eilein Sgitheanaich (DAES)
A very big thank you to everyone at DAES for the very generous donation of £100.00 raised at the annual 'bested dressed' competition.  This money will be used to provide healthy snacks and fruit drinks for our 5 weekly group sessions.

Cook Start Skye
Thank you so much to Cook Start Skye for the very generous donation of £225.06 which was the balance of monies left over from the winding up of the charity.  This money will be used to purchase ingredients to allow young carers to become more actively involved in cooking and baking whilst attending their newly extended weekly group session.

Rhoda Grant MSP
A massive thanks to our friend and support Rhoda Grant for her latest donations which totalled £250.00.  This money was received through research work undertaken with Ipsos MORI Scotland and PA Advocacy Ltd.  The funding will be used to purchase suitable clothing items and new resources for our planned Young Carer workshops, this will increase knowledge and understanding of topics important to the well-being of young carers and their families.

Lochalsh Knitters Workshop
Thank you so much for the generous donation of £145.00 raised from the sale of baby clothes.  We really appreciate the time and care taken to make the garments and then sell them for the benefit of young carers in Skye and Lochalsh.  This money will help towards the cost of the healthy drinks and snacks we provide to some 50 young carers each week during their group session time.

Struan Community Trust
A huge thank you to the Struan Community Trust for the generous and very much appreciated grant of £3310.00 as a contribution to our premises rental costs. This will relieve a significant pressure for us and will help to ensure the service continues to provide a safe and secure base in order to deliver the 5 weekly sessions for the young carers in our area. 

Portree Parish Church of Scotland
Our most grateful thanks goes to the Portree Parish Church of Scotland congregation for the very generous £1,000 donation collected at the Harvest Thanksgiving Service.  This money will be used to support the purchase of activity materials, hot snacks, healthy nibbles and fresh fruit and vegetables at each of our 5 weekly group sessions.

Sleat Whist Group
Thank you so much to our loyal supporters at the Sleat Whist Group for the latest very much appreciated donation of £133.00.  This money will be used to provide some group session treats which are always so well received by the young carers.

 

 

September 2017

Waternish BBQ and Auctions
A massive thank you to Ian and Gill Williams, Chef Michael Smith and their amazing team of Young Carer supporters who organised the venue, the banquet, the raffle and the auctions.  As a result of the incredible generosity of caring people both near and far a grand total of £4,859.67 was raised on the night!  This money will help us bridge the shortfall of funds not currently covered by our core funding from Highland Council or the project funding provided by The Big Lottery or BBC Children in Need from the 1st of October.  We are presently supporting 68 young carers in Skye and Lochalsh aged from 6 to 17 years of age.

Personal Donations
A very big thank you to the individuals who gave personal donations totaling £111.00 this month. This money will be used to provide some special young carer treats during our October respite plans.

Open Door Café
Our sincere thanks goes to our extremely loyal friends and supporters at the Open Door Café for the latest donation of £75.00.  This money will be used to support the Young Carers' October respite plans.

Waternish Dog Trials
Our most sincere thanks goes to everyone participating in the Waternish Dogs Trials - you all helped to raise a very generous grand total of £583.20 for the benefit of young carers.  This money will be used to purchase respite and skill development activity materials to support the interests and skills of the young carers in our area.

August 2017

Agricultural Show
A very big thank you to SLCVO and our volunteers and supporters who helped raised a total of £308.50 at our fundraising stall. This money will be used to meet the needs of some more vulnerable young carers who require one to one activity support to help build their confidence and self-esteem.

Skye Games Committee
A massive thanks you goes to the Skye Games Committee and our volunteers for their support in raising a fantastic grand total of £1944.16 on the day!  This money which was collected from managing car parks and cleaning up the arena will be used to support our young carer's transport costs, without transport they would not be able to meet together for mutual support and respite break activities.

RSCDS Isle of Skye Branch
Sincere thanks to the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society for their generous and thoughtful donation of £150.00 which was raised during the annual May weekend raffle.  This money will be used to help cover the costs of providing healthy fruit and vegetable snacks for the 5 group sessions we run each week.

The Royal Caledonian Charities Trust
Thank you so much to the supporter who personally donated £100.00 to the Young Carer cause.  This much appreciated money will be used to support the individual needs and interests of some of our more vulnerable members.

Personal Donations
Huge thanks goes to those who made personal donations totally £400.00 this month.  As requested, some of this money will be used to support the purchase of Starbucks cards for young carers going on the planned annual Edinburgh residential - so they can stop for a rest, a hot chocolate and muffin when they run out of steam! The rest of the funds will be used to purchase foods with high nutrient content for the benefit of the young carers.

Willie Gordon
Sincere thanks to Willie for the much appreciated donation of £50.00 which was received from the hire of tartan provided for the Skye Games stage decoration.  This money will be used to help cover the cost of fresh fruit and vegetables provided at the group sessions.

Sleat Whist
Thank you so much for your loyal and generous support which totalled £210.00.  This money will be used to purchase materials and equipment to support the interests and skills of individual young carers so that their talents are nurtured and encouraged.

Ardvasar Cafe, Sleat
A massive thank you to all the very generous volunteers and supporters who came together for a fundraising lunch, raffle and silent auction in support of Young Carers.  The brilliant total of £1003.67 will be used to support the young carer's respite breaks which are so needed and appreciated by all the participants.

Misty Isle Boat Trip & BBQ
Huge thanks go to our many friends and supporters who came on the Misty Isle Boat Trip & BBQ in support of Young Carers.  Special thanks to Shea and Anne and crew for providing the boat trip with whales along side for company! Donald and Ann Bethune for the delicious BBQ and to the musicians who provided the lovely entertainment. A fantastic grand total of £1007.00 was raised on the night and will be used to help cover the costs of the planned respite activities over the autumn/winter period.

 

 

July 2017

Open Door Cafe, Kyle
Sincere thanks to all our loyal supporters at the Open Door Cafe for the latest generous donation of £125.00.  This money will help us purchase some camera equipment for the "This is Good for You" Project we will be running in partnership with the Aros Centre in Portree.  We will have 6 photography and/or model making sessions running during the summer break and we hope to have an exhibition of the young carer's work showing in September!

Lochalsh Christian Fellowship
A very big thank you to the Lochalsh Christian Fellowship congregation for generous and very much appreciated donation of £250.00.  This money will us used to support some of the costs of our local respite activity programme which will be running each week during the summer school break.

Catriona Allan - Sponsored Walk
A massive thank you to Catriona Allan and everyone who supported the sponsored walk to mark her retirement from the teaching profession.  The amazing sum of £1287.38 was raised for Young Carers, this money will be used to purchase much needed arts, crafts and educational materials for use during the 5 weekly support group sessions.

Our sincere thanks to our extremely loyal supporters at the Open Door Cafe for the donation of £200.00.  This money you have provided will help support the cost of our local respite activity programme during the summer break when many young carers see an increase in their caring role while other young people are fortunate enough to be out and about enjoying the freedom.

Thank you all so much for your incredibly generous donation of £500.00.  The funding you have provided will help us deliver a varied local respite activity programme during the summer break - we will be offering respite support to over 60 young carers members in our area.

Thank you so much for the very generous donation of £200.00 raised through the sale of second hand books. This money will help to support some of the costs of our local summer respite programme when many young carers are continuing with their responsibilities while friends are on holiday.

Firstly, please accept our congratulations on completing the Dunvegan 10k. Secondly, a huge thank you for your greatly appreciated sponsorship donation of £304.64. This money will be used to help purchase the healthy snacks we provide for the 5 weekly group sessions. We will also put some of the money towards purchasing new resources that the young carers have identified as being of benefit to them to use while with us at Victoria Cottage.

A most sincere thank you for the incredibly generous donation of £14,162.97 that you awarded us from the local community fund. This will boost the young carers self esteem and confidence knowing that the community recognise and support them. The money will support us to provide our 5 weekly sessions during term time and also our respite trips which are essential to allow the children a break from their caring responsibilities.

XCEL ChurchThank you for the very generous donation of Easter eggs for the young carers and our volunteers. All of the children were very grateful for the eggs and thrilled that there was such a lovely selection. Providing eggs for the volunteers who give up so much of their time and energy to support young carers was much appreciated by them all.

Personal DonationsA huge thank you for the personal donations totalling £1450.00. These donations will help us to provide healthy snacks for the young carers and also help towards our summer "Dealing with Loss & Change" residential programmes.
