August 2017

Agricultural Show
A very big thank you to SLCVO and our volunteers and supporters who helped raised a total of £308.50 at our fundraising stall. This money will be used to meet the needs of some more vulnerable young carers who require one to one activity support to help build their confidence and self-esteem.

Skye Games Committee
A massive thanks you goes to the Skye Games Committee and our volunteers for their support in raising a fantastic grand total of £1944.16 on the day!  This money which was collected from managing car parks and cleaning up the arena will be used to support our young carer's transport costs, without transport they would not be able to meet together for mutual support and respite break activities.

RSCDS Isle of Skye Branch
Sincere thanks to the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society for their generous and thoughtful donation of £150.00 which was raised during the annual May weekend raffle.  This money will be used to help cover the costs of providing healthy fruit and vegetable snacks for the 5 group sessions we run each week.

The Royal Caledonian Charities Trust
Thank you so much to the supporter who personally donated £100.00 to the Young Carer cause.  This much appreciated money will be used to support the individual needs and interests of some of our more vulnerable members.

Personal Donations
Huge thanks goes to those who made personal donations totally £400.00 this month.  As requested, some of this money will be used to support the purchase of Starbucks cards for young carers going on the planned annual Edinburgh residential - so they can stop for a rest, a hot chocolate and muffin when they run out of steam! The rest of the funds will be used to purchase foods with high nutrient content for the benefit of the young carers.

Willie Gordon
Sincere thanks to Willie for the much appreciated donation of £50.00 which was received from the hire of tartan provided for the Skye Games stage decoration.  This money will be used to help cover the cost of fresh fruit and vegetables provided at the group sessions.

Sleat Whist
Thank you so much for your loyal and generous support which totalled £210.00.  This money will be used to purchase materials and equipment to support the interests and skills of individual young carers so that their talents are nurtured and encouraged.

Ardvasar Cafe, Sleat
A massive thank you to all the very generous volunteers and supporters who came together for a fundraising lunch, raffle and silent auction in support of Young Carers.  The brilliant total of £1003.67 will be used to support the young carer's respite breaks which are so needed and appreciated by all the participants.

Misty Isle Boat Trip & BBQ
Huge thanks go to our many friends and supporters who came on the Misty Isle Boat Trip & BBQ in support of Young Carers.  Special thanks to Shea and Anne and crew for providing the boat trip with whales along side for company! Donald and Ann Bethune for the delicious BBQ and to the musicians who provided the lovely entertainment. A fantastic grand total of £1007.00 was raised on the night and will be used to help cover the costs of the planned respite activities over the autumn/winter period.

Waternish Dog Trials
Our most sincere thanks goes to everyone participating in the Waternish Dogs Trials - you all helped to raise a very generous grand total of £583.20 for the benefit of young carers.  This money will be used to purchase respite and skill development activity materials to support the interests and skills of the young carers in our area.

 

 

July 2017

Open Door Cafe, Kyle
Sincere thanks to all our loyal supporters at the Open Door Cafe for the latest generous donation of £125.00.  This money will help us purchase some camera equipment for the "This is Good for You" Project we will be running in partnership with the Aros Centre in Portree.  We will have 6 photography and/or model making sessions running during the summer break and we hope to have an exhibition of the young carer's work showing in September!

Lochalsh Christian Fellowship
A very big thank you to the Lochalsh Christian Fellowship congregation for generous and very much appreciated donation of £250.00.  This money will us used to support some of the costs of our local respite activity programme which will be running each week during the summer school break.

Catriona Allan - Sponsored Walk
A massive thank you to Catriona Allan and everyone who supported the sponsored walk to mark her retirement from the teaching profession.  The amazing sum of £1287.38 was raised for Young Carers, this money will be used to purchase much needed arts, crafts and educational materials for use during the 5 weekly support group sessions.

Our sincere thanks to our extremely loyal supporters at the Open Door Cafe for the donation of £200.00.  This money you have provided will help support the cost of our local respite activity programme during the summer break when many young carers see an increase in their caring role while other young people are fortunate enough to be out and about enjoying the freedom.

Thank you all so much for your incredibly generous donation of £500.00.  The funding you have provided will help us deliver a varied local respite activity programme during the summer break - we will be offering respite support to over 60 young carers members in our area.

Thank you so much for the very generous donation of £200.00 raised through the sale of second hand books. This money will help to support some of the costs of our local summer respite programme when many young carers are continuing with their responsibilities while friends are on holiday.

Firstly, please accept our congratulations on completing the Dunvegan 10k. Secondly, a huge thank you for your greatly appreciated sponsorship donation of £304.64. This money will be used to help purchase the healthy snacks we provide for the 5 weekly group sessions. We will also put some of the money towards purchasing new resources that the young carers have identified as being of benefit to them to use while with us at Victoria Cottage.

A most sincere thank you for the incredibly generous donation of £14,162.97 that you awarded us from the local community fund. This will boost the young carers self esteem and confidence knowing that the community recognise and support them. The money will support us to provide our 5 weekly sessions during term time and also our respite trips which are essential to allow the children a break from their caring responsibilities.

XCEL ChurchThank you for the very generous donation of Easter eggs for the young carers and our volunteers. All of the children were very grateful for the eggs and thrilled that there was such a lovely selection. Providing eggs for the volunteers who give up so much of their time and energy to support young carers was much appreciated by them all.

Personal DonationsA huge thank you for the personal donations totalling £1450.00. These donations will help us to provide healthy snacks for the young carers and also help towards our summer "Dealing with Loss & Change" residential programmes.

Many thanks indeed for helping to raise funds for young carers in Skye and Lochalsh through the sale of tablet.  The very much appreciated sum of £53.00 which  included 2 individual donations will be used to provide the healthy snacks young carers really enjoy when they attend their weekly support groups.

COOL Scotland
Our most sincere thanks goes to Dave Mockett and Plockton High School for raising £119.53 from the sale of photographs at the High School Social.  This money will support the cost of our local Spring respite activity programme when many young carers are continuing with their caring responsibilities while many of their friends are on holiday or out and about with friends.

Duncan MacLeod and Genelg Quizzers
Thank you so much for your latest donation of £53.00 which you raised at your recent pub quiz at Glenelg Inn. This money will help us to cover the costs of our local respite activity programme during the Easter break - we have horse riding and Nerf Wars in the planning!

Populus
Our grateful thanks goes the Populus which is a research and strategy consultancy.  One of their key stakeholders who recently took part in a research project  waived her fee in favour of Populus making a donation the S&L Young Carers.  The £50.00 received will be used to help purchase some new and much needed indoor and outdoor equipment for the young carer's groups session activities.

Our sincere thanks goes to Rhoda for her latest, very much appreciated donation of £30.00 which was received through YouGov.  This money has been used to help cover the costs of the healthy snacks we provide at each of the weekly group sessions.

Personal Donations
Thank you so much for the 2 personal donations which totalled £60.00 this month.  This money is being used to purchase healthy snacks for the group sessions, these include fresh fruits and vegetables as well as yoghurts and dried fruits.

The John Casson Foundation
Our most sincere thanks and gratitude goes to The John Casson Foundation for awarding us £2,500 to cover the cost of the young carer's much needed Staffin self-catering respite breaks for up to 12 young carers.  This will consist of two 3 night stays this summer to enable us to deliver a life skill development programme which helps young people deal with loss and significant changes in their lives.  Thank you so much for making our wish a potentially life changing reality for us.

Diana Mackie and Supporters
Huge thanks to Diana and absolutely everyone involved in the fantastic fundraising dinner and dance held at the Old School Inn Dunvegan to mark her 70th birthday.  The delicious meal, the auction, the raffle, the music, the company and the amazing atmosphere were second to none!  An incredible total £4,500 was raised on the night and thanks to Mr John Casson being in the audience we have been invited to apply for funding to help support much need local self catering respite breaks in Staffin again this summer.

Friends and Supporters linked to Broadford Hospital
A massive thank you to Chrisann and colleagues who raised funds to then purchase outdoor clothing and other items needed by young carers this winter.  The quantity and quality of the clothing is amazing and so very much appreciated, thank you all again for your wonderful kindness and thoughtfulness.

Huge thanks to you and your fantastic team for all the miles you pedalled to raise the magnificent sum of £625.00 for Young Carers.  The money will be used to support the Young Carer's much needed respite programme which gives them something to look forward to and something very positive to look back on when times are harder.

A big thank you to staff and customers at Jansvans for very generous collection can donations amounting to a total of £66.39.  This money will be used to support the Young Carers much needed respite programme.

Lochalsh Knitters
Our sincere thanks goes to Greta and Wendy for raising a grand total of £112.90 for Young Carers.  We really do appreciate all the work that went into making knitted goods to sell in the wee shop in Plockton in order to raise these funds for us.  The money will be used to purchase fun arts and crafts materials for the weekly support group sessions.

Thank you so much for the personal donations received this month which totalled £275.00.  This money will be used to support the purchase snacks and baking products for young carer's 1-2-1 sessions and art materials for young carers keen to develop their skills and talents.

2016 Great Wilderness Challenge (GWC)
An absolutely massive thank you to the Young Carer's team members, our many generous sponsors and everyone involved in the GWC event for helping us to raise the amazing sum of £38,150!  This money helps us to fill the difficult funding gap we find ourselves in each year so we can meet the needs of the young carers accessing the service.

STV Children's Appeal
Our sincere thanks go to STV Children in Need for th award of £1,000, this money will be used to support respite activities.

Sleat Whist Club
A very big thank you for the generous sum of £134 which will go towards supporting 1-2-1 sessions for young carers who require additional support.

The Royal Caledonian Charities Trust
Thank you so much for your wonderfully generous donation of £5,000.  This funding will ensure our annual residential break to Edinburgh will go ahead as we and young carers desperately hoped it would - it is the highlight of our calendar year.  Thank you again for your amazingly loyal and generous support of young carers in Skye and Lochalsh.

Open Door Cafe
Our sincere thanks to all our generous friends and supporters at the cafe for the latest donation of £175.00.  This money will be used to support our Christmas respite programme and activities which will be organised locally and in Inverness depending on young carer's choice and ability levels.  Plans include cinema at Aros, Go Karting/cinema in Inverness or Nerf Wars with Matt at Ace Sports.

Special thanks also go to Anc Carins for her kindness in donating proceeds of her product sale which amounted to £76.41.  This money will be used to help purchase much needed activity materials to enable young carers to make small gifts of appreciation for their family and friends this Christmas.

Misty Isle Boat Trips
A very big thank you for the generous donation of £930.00. The weather wasn't on our side this year and the boat trip had to be cancelled but despite this MIBT pulled together a fantastic donation for us.

Ardvasar Cafe
A huge thank you to friends and supporters for your incredibly generous donation of £1000.25 raised at your recent charity cafe. The money raised will be used to support the Young Carer's respite programme which continues to develop according to the needs and wishes of Young Carers. They tell us these breaks help them to "recharge our batteries" and give them "something to look forward to so we can keep going".
They also provide much needed opportunities to try and then practice new skills and interests as well as develop their social and personal safety skills.

Network Tuesday Group
Thank you very much for the donation of £100.00 which will be used to provide activity materials for our weekly group sessions. The Young Carers love arts and craft work as it gives them a sense of purpose and pride as well as a small gift to give to family or friends.

Open Door Cafe, Kyle
Thank you to friends and supporters for your latest donation of £75.00 for the Young Carers service. The money will be used to support Young Carer's local respite breaks during the October holidays. The different groups have opted for either a meal out, horse riding, Ace sports or Aros ball pool.

Church of Scotland Parish of Strath and Sleat
A big thank you for the very generous donation of £224.32 uplifted at Skye and Lochalsh Churches Joint Service held on 28th August 2016. This money will be used to support Young Carers respite programme which continues to develop according to the needs and wishes of the Young Carers.
